More than 50 companies, busy aisles, exciting conversations and lots of opportunities: At wir4connectMe on the campus of Hochschule Rhein-Waal in Kamp-Lintfort, young people had the chance on September 10 to find out what options are available to them after school.
Whether it was an apprenticeship, internship, dual study programme or university degree – there was a lot to choose from. Companies and institutions from a wide range of industries were there to showcase what they have to offer. And the best part: Instead of just reading job advertisements, young people could talk directly to people from the companies, ask questions and make their first contacts.
Around 850 students – and many more
The campus was already busy in the morning. Around 850 students had registered in advance, and many more school classes joined spontaneously. Students from grades 9, 10 and 11 made up the largest group, while around 10 percent of the visitors were already in grade 8.
At lunchtime, things got even busier: Many parents came along with their children to find out more about training and career opportunities. Students from Hochschule Rhein-Waal also took the opportunity to visit the companies and find out about potential career paths.
🚀 Try out technology instead of just reading about it
One of the highlights for many young visitors was the M+E InfoTruck. Here, the motto was: try it out, get involved and discover modern technology for yourself. At interactive stations, visitors could take on different technical challenges and learn more about careers in the metal and electrical engineering industry.
But technology wasn’t the only thing on offer: Companies from industry and skilled trades, public administration and finance, healthcare, education, retail and services were represented on campus. So anyone who wasn’t quite sure yet which career path they wanted to take could gather plenty of ideas and inspiration.
🎤 A stage, companies and plenty going on
There was also plenty happening outside on the campus courtyard. The large stage and the outdoor exhibition stands created a real event atmosphere and turned the courtyard into a popular meeting point.
Anyone with questions about studying could also speak directly to the student advisory service at Hochschule Rhein-Waal. And those who already had an application ready or were working on one could get helpful tips from the FachWerkBildung gGmbH and the Youth Employment Agency through their application review service.
💡 The most important thing: Just go and ask!
That’s exactly what wir4connectMe is all about: discover opportunities, try things out, ask questions and perhaps make your first contact with your future training company.
Because who knows – maybe there was exactly that one booth at wir4connectMe where “I’ll just have a look” turned into “I’d like to do my internship there” – or even “That’s where I want to start my apprenticeship.”
